Brighter Futures: Local and Global Involvement

In Southern Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, an estimated 23-25% of rural areas have access to sanitation facilities, meaning that nearly three fourths of the people can’t get clean water, sufficient plumbing, heat, light their homes, or cook with water that does not contain disease.
This is the reality we live in; one where an estimated 1.7 billion people live off the gird, many of whom live in third world countries. These are people with ideas, with homes, with families, who are cut off from the connections that help us move forward; all because of energy deficiency.
The number one tends to get overlooked, probably because it’s so small; especially when we think about much larger numbers to consider, like 783,000,000: the number of people around the world without access to clean, drinkable water.
When Hurricane Sandy struck in 2013, there were 2.7 million power outages in New Jersey alone, not to mention the catastrophic damage done to houses, roads, and bridges. Phone lines, traffic signals, houses, cable lines, police stations, and businesses that remained standing were left without power.
